NEWTON, Mass. — Eco-friendly properties across Canada can now get recognition on TripAdvisor, thanks to the expansion of the company’s GreenLeaders program across the country.

Eligible properties will be awarded bronze, silver, gold or platinum awards, which will then be displayed on the property’s listing on TripAdvisor. “With so many travellers placing an importance on the eco-friendly practices of the places they visit, hotel and B&B owners stand to gain a real competitive edge by promoting their environmentally friendly practices,” said Jenny Rushmore, director of Responsible Travel at TripAdvisor. “Our TripAdvisor GreenLeaders program will enable businesses managing their environmental footprint to highlight their commitment to millions of travellers around the world, at no expense to their business.”

To apply for the GreenLeaders program, properties must demonstrate they are tracking energy use on a regular basis; using at least 75-per-cent energy-efficient light bulbs; recycling at least two types of waste; training staff and educating guests on green practices; and they must have towel and linen re-use plans in place.
