CALGARY — Stagewest Hospitality — owner/operator of hotels, casinos, restaurants and Stage West theatres — is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Owned by the Pechet family, the Calgary-based company’s story began in 1942 when Eugene Pechet purchased the Auditorium Hotel in North Battleford, Sask. Eugene’s son Howard went on to introduce the concept of dinner theatres to Canada, which continues with the popularity of Stage West Theatre Restaurant in Calgary.

Today, Stagewest Hospitality is under the direction of third-generation hotelier and CEO Jason Pechet, who introduced an additional facet to the company with the purchase of Play Estate Winery in 2016.

“As hoteliers, it was a natural extension for us to follow our passion to create a complete culinary experience for our guests by opening our own winery,” explains Jason.

The Okanagan winery, which boasts a tasting room, a bistro with an indoor/outdoor patio and event space, recently celebrated its first full year of operation. In 2016, the winery produced approximately 4,000 cases of wine and is on track to double its production for 2017.
