CLARENVILLE, Nfld. — Clarenville, Nfld. is now home to its first Quality Hotel. The legacy property, originally the St. Jude Hotel, underwent a full-scale, $2-million renovation prior to opening this month under the Quality brand.

“We’re thrilled to see Quality grow its presence in Atlantic Canada,” says Graham Marsh, director of Franchise Development at Choice Hotels Canada. “Clarenville is a busy hub in Newfoundland and the hotel represents an important economic driver for the community.”

The hotel was purchased by Clayton Hospitality last year. It’s the company’s third property franchised from Choice Hotels Canada in the province and joins its Comfort properties in St. John’s and Gander. The Newfoundland and Labrador-based hospitality company has been involved with 16 properties throughout Atlantic Canada.

Renovations on the three-storey property took four-and-a-half months to complete, though doors were only closed for a one-week period during work on the common areas. The hotel features 64 guestrooms, two meeting rooms with a total capacity of 150, a fitness centre and onsite restaurant — Bella’s Casual Dining.

“We’re really excited about our latest property and are confident it’ll be well received by the community and guests alike,” says Judy Sparkes-Giannou, managing director of Clayton Hospitality. “It was an all-encompassing renovation — from taps to toilets, telephones to towels —and we could not be prouder of the final product.”
