SASKATOON — Some visitors to this weekend’s Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, Cher concert and Pride parade found themselves without lodging, as hotel rooms were completely booked weeks in advance, according to Global News.

According to Tourism Saskatoon, the number of visitors has doubled in the last six years to approximately 2.1 million. The hospitality industry is meeting this growing demand with eight new properties, comprising an additional 1,000 rooms, opening over the next two years.

Global News reports that tourism from domestic, national and international visitors is currently worth approximately $530 million annually. Officials hope the new planned properties will make Saskatoon increasingly attractive to business travellers and international conventions. [globalnews.ca]
