CALGARY — MasterBuilt Hotels’ newest property has joined the EcoStay program.

The Microtel Inn & Suites Fort St. John in B.C., which opened in August, is the seventh hotel in the MasterBuilt portfolio to join the program. “We’re very excited to be part of the EcoStay Program,” said Lorna Knoll, director of Operations for MasterBuilt Hotels. “It’s a meaningful and effective way of demonstrating our concern for the environment.”

EcoStay is a national initiative supporting hotels across North America in their effort to take action against climate change. Under the program, MasterBuilt Hotels will collect two dollars per night from hotel guests, which will be used to purchase carbon offsets to support emission-reducing projects across the country such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, agriculture and recycling — effectively balancing the impact from the hotel’s operations.
