MONTREAL — Group Germain Hotels has announced a $20-million renovation to its Le Germain Hotel in downtown Montreal.

“This major transformation will allow Le Germain Hotel Montreal to enhance the experience of our guests, in addition to allowing us to remain competitive in the face of the tremendous growth we are currently witnessing in the hotel industry in Montreal,” says Christiane Germain, co-founder and co-president of Group Germain Hotels. “We are pleased to be investing in this property, which was, at the time of its opening in 1999, the first boutique hotel in Montreal.”

The project will include work to both the exterior of the building and the interior of the hotel. Envisioned by Montreal architecture firm LemayMichaud Design Architecture, the new version of Le Germain Hotel Montreal will feature an outside marquee, while the lobby, restaurant and bar will also be completely refurbished. As the building was constructed in 1967, the revitalization of the rooms will be inspired by the ’70s. New meeting rooms will be introduced and the fitness room will move to a higher floor.

As a result of the major work to be carried out on the interior and exterior of the building, the hotel will close in October 2018 and reopen in May 2019.
