TORONTO — Irwin Prince, president and COO of Realstar Hospitality, rappelled down 26 stories of the JW Marriott L.A. Monday in support of Shatterproof — an organization that helps protect children from addiction and works to end the stigma associated with the disease.

After losing his son to drugs in 2011, Gary Mendell, the former CEO of HEI Hotels & Resorts, left his 25-year career and started Shatterproof with $5 million of his own money.

During the ALIS conference held Jan. 25 to 26, the hotel industry united to raise awareness around the issue of addiction. “It was a great honour to participate in this unique event in support of such an important initiative,” says Prince. “Gary Mendell’s story continues to inspire so many people. Shatterproof is a remarkable organization with a message that resonates with millions across the globe.”
