SALT LAKE CITY — InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has named former McDonald’s chief marketing officer (CMO), Larry Light, as its global chief brands officer.

“I am delighted to welcome Larry to our senior leadership team and look forward to working with him. One of our strategic priorities is to develop our brands and Larry’s wealth of experience and brand expertise will help us build a stronger platform for future growth,” said Richard Solomons, CEO of IHG.

In addition to serving as McDonald’s CMO, Light has held positions in senior roles with Mars, Nissan, 3M and IBM. Light is also an author, having co-wrote the book Six Rules for Brand Revitalization.

The appointment comes as the company launches two new brands — Even and Hualuxe Hotels — in the first quarter of 2012.
