MCLEAN, Va. — Beginning on July 31, guests looking cancel a booked room at a Hilton hotel will need to do so two-days ahead of time or face a penalty equal to one night’s stay.

The new policy will apply to all Hilton brands in the U.S. and Canada.

A spokesperson for Hilton told TravelSkills: “We have proposed updating the default house cancellation policy to 48-hours — 72-hours in select locations — for our managed properties and have suggested the same for franchised hotels. As always, the cancellation policy associated with any reservation is made clear to our guests throughout the booking process and in the confirmation emails they receive.”

Marriott International also recently implemented a policy requiring guests to provide 48-hours’ notice to cancel a reservation, or pay the equivalent of one night’s stay.
