TORONTO — The Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) has announced the recipients of the 2018 Awards of Excellence. The awards recognize HAC members who demonstrate significant accomplishments and represent some of the finest examples of professionalism, quality and excellence in the industry.

The Human Resources Award was awarded to the Campus Tower Suite Hotel Edmonton for its investment in a human-resources culture, receiving an Ambassador Satisfaction Index (ASI) score of 90 per cent.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Toronto Airport received the award for Most Impressive Hotel Repositioning. Owned and managed by The Easton’s Group of Hotels, the former Quality Suites underwent a full renovation valued at approximately $18 million and marks a significant milestone as the first Embassy Suites in the Greater Toronto Area.

The title of Revenue Performance Team of the Year was awarded to TownePlace Suites by Marriott Red Deer for its successful execution of a strategy to maximize guest satisfaction, loyalty and revenue. The hotel has generated exceptional results, finishing 2017 ahead of average occupancy and lowering ADR to be within $2 ahead of its competitive rate.

The Pacific Gateway Hotel Vancouver was recognized with the Green Key Environment Award of Excellence, which recognizes properties that have developed a culture towards integrating environmental-management practices that improve everyday lodging operations while maintaining quality service and guest expectations. A Green Key Global member, the hotel holds 5-Key ratings in both of the organization’s programs — Green Key Eco-Rating and Green Key Meetings.

The Aspiring Hotelier Award of Excellence recognizes the future generation of hospitality leaders. The 2018 award was presented to Megan Reid of the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort, who exemplifies a “rising star” and is actively contributing to the development of potential hoteliers coming into the workforce. Reid has worked in hospitality for more than eight years and has served as an hotelier in four different provinces.

Finally, the 2018 Humanitarian Award of Excellence was presented to Cambridge Suites Hotel, Sydney, N.S. The hotel has shown outstanding energy and commitment to fundraising, resulting in $1.2 million for its community.

“The HAC Awards of Excellence acknowledge the people who exemplify excellence across the industry,” says Alison Evans, Interim president, HAC. “Recipients share a commitment to enhancing guest experiences and each leaves a significant impact on the hotel industry through their efforts. Together, we proudly celebrate their remarkable achievements.”
