OTTAWA — Green Key Global, an Ottawa-based environmental-certification body, has released the latest update to its Green Key Meetings certification program, in partnership with Mississauga, Ont.-based MPI Foundation Canada.

Green Key Meetings Certification Program Version 2.0 offers a comprehensive environmental assessment tool for meetings of any scale; it has been updated to incorporate current meeting practice elements and APEX/ASTM Green Meeting Standards. Facilities are measured based on six key areas of sustainable performance and management, including core areas such as energy, water and waste, communication, activities, exhibition, audiovisual and production. Upon completion, facilities are awarded up to five keys.

“The MPI Foundation is proud to continue its support of the Green Key Meetings Program as it embraces the importance of corporate social responsibility within our industry,” said Shelley Williams, chair of MPI Foundation Canada. “The program revision now also allows for non-lodging facilities to participate, delivering a more valuable resource for environmentally conscious meeting planners.”

Other updates include written reduction plans, numeric targets and baselines, training policies and programs as well as other user-friendly features, such as downloadable templates.
