BERKELEY, Calif. — Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has reportedly acquired The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in the Oakland-Berkeley hills, according to various news sources.

“The Claremont’s owner has entered into a Purchase and Sale Agreement with FRHI [The Fairmont/Raffles Hotels International group] and their Capital Partners. It is expected that FRHI will complete the transaction on/about February 27, 2014. The Claremont will become a Fairmont managed property at that time,” wrote Bruce Carlton, GM of the Claremont Resort in an email as quoted by berkeleyside.com, a California-based online news source.

FHRI has made no comment regarding the potential acquisition. “FRHI Hotels & Resorts does not comment on rumour or speculation,” said Mike Taylor, a spokesman as quoted by George Avalos of the Oakland Tribune. “Our company is continually evaluating opportunities for growth with all three of our leading luxury hotel brands through potential management contracts and attractive acquisition opportunities.”

The 279-room hotel opened in 1915 and offers views of San Francisco and the bay.
