EDMONTON — The Delta Hotel slated for Rogers Place in Edmonton’s Ice District development will now be a JW Marriott — only the third in Canada.

The hotel, set to open in 2018, will anchor the first 26 floors of a 55-storey exclusive condo tower. “We think of it as a luxury brand that has luxury and some approachability to it,” says Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International. “In a sense, that’s perfect for Edmonton.”

In late 2014, the joint venture behind Ice District announced it was partnering with Delta Hotels and Resorts to open Edmonton’s first newly constructed, four-star, full-service hotel in three decades, but the branding of the hotel was revisited when Marriott acquired the Delta chain last year.

The JW Marriott Edmonton will feature 356 rooms and about 25,000-sq.-ft.of meeting and conference space, a 10,000-sq.-ft. ballroom, a spa and a restaurant operated by Toronto-based Oliver and Bonacini Restaurants.
