PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — According to the latest data from Lodging Econometrics (LE), the total construction pipeline in Canada currently boasts 237 projects totalling 29,881 rooms, up 11 per cent year-over-year (YOY) by projects.

There are 90 projects/11,811 rooms under construction (up 20 per cent YOY), as well as 93 projects/10,658 rooms scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months (up 11 per cent). Those in early planning include 54 projects/412 rooms — a two-per-cent decrease YOY.

The top hotel companies in Canada’s construction pipeline (by projects) are: Marriott (54 projects/7,718 rooms), InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) (44 projects/4,528 rooms) and Hilton (38 projects/4,319 rooms). The largest brands in the pipeline for each of these companies are: Courtyard by Marriott (11 projects), IHG’s Holiday Inn Express (29 projects) and Hilton’s Hampton Inn & Suites (14 projects).

Toronto leads Canadian cities in pipeline projects, with 34 projects and 4,915 rooms, followed by Calgary (15 projects/2,310 rooms) and Edmonton (12 projects/1,825 rooms).
