SAN FRANSISCO, Calif. — According to Travel Weekly, research conducted by New York-based Phocuswright shows Airbnb could be the world’s fourth largest online travel intermediary by the end of the year.

Airbnb, which doesn’t share bookings or revenue figures, is estimated to have generated approximately US$7.5 billion in gross bookings in 2015. Phocuswright expects the company to surpass European OTA eDreams Odigeo in annual bookings this year.

The eDreams Odigeo brands, Opodo, Travelink and Go Voyages, generated 10.7 billion euros (US$12 billion) in bookings for the year ending March 31, based on the company’s public filings. Phocuswright predicts Airbnb will surpass these numbers — making it the fourth-ranked OTA behind Expedia Inc., Priceline Group and Ctrip in annual gross bookings. Last year, Expedia generated US$61 billion in gross bookings and Priceline generated US$56 billion.
