BETHESDA, Md. — Marriott International Inc. recently opened the doors to its Courtyard by Marriott Cold Lake property in Cold Lake, Alta. Located at Route 28 and Highway 897, the 120-room hotel will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned by CLFN Hotel Limited Partnerships and managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts.

The new property — which features an innovative lobby space and modern room designs — is adjacent to Casino Dene and in close proximity to many corporations including Cenovus, Flint Energy, Imperial Oil, CNRL and Osum. The hotel is also situated near the Provincial Court of Alberta, City Hall and 4 Wing Canadian Air Force Base.

“From day one, Courtyard has prided itself as a brand that listens to business travellers,” says Callette Nielsen, VP and global-brand manager, Courtyard. “Today’s technology has changed how people travel. Our guests want a room that has purpose and flexibility that enables a seamless transition between relaxing and working. Courtyard is designed to offer them a relaxing and functional space to work the way they want to, when they want to.”

Room designs at the Courtyard Cold Lake offer hybrid zones for working, sleeping and relaxing, with access to the latest technologies; upon arrival guests can store their bags on the Luggage Drop and plug their personal electronics into the Tech Drop ledge for seamless technology integration.

The new guestrooms also feature modern furniture and architectural elements, such as the LoungAround sofa — which gives each room a pop of colour and a comfortable area for both work and relaxation — and a light desk on wheels for making workspaces more mobile. Featured artwork throughout the hotel was purchased from a national art competition that received submissions from across Canada.

New to the property is the Refreshing Business lobby, where guests will have access to brightly-lit areas with media pods, free Wi-Fi and a variety of seating zones. The Courtyard Cold Lake will also house the only Starbucks in town. In addition, the hotel includes The Bistro — Eat. Drink. Connect, which boasts casual seating, healthy breakfast options and light evening fare.

Other hotel amenities include a business library with several computer terminals and printers, a swimming pool and whirlpool spa, fitness centre, guest laundry and 2,142 sq. ft. of meeting space to accommodate up to 160 guests. Courtyard Cold Lake continues the brand’s commitment to green practices by introducing a guest recycling program; all side exists include individual receptacles for paper, glass, plastic and metal.
